Advantage+ leads campaign: how it works and when to turn it off
An Advantage+ leads campaign is a Meta Leads campaign running three settings together: campaign budget, Advantage+ audience and Advantage+ placements. Narrow any one too far and Ads Manager shows Advantage+ off. Keep it on for most UAE lead gen, use controls that do not break it, and judge it on qualified leads.
Create a Leads campaign in Meta Ads Manager today and the Budget, Audience and Placements sections already say "Advantage+ on". Many advertisers then search for how to turn it off, usually because they worry about lead quality or lost control.
The label is less mysterious than it looks. Below is what an Advantage+ leads campaign is and exactly what switches each part off, taken from Meta's own help pages (checked 29 October 2026). Then what Meta's figures do and do not measure, and the rule I use to decide when a lead-gen account should keep it.
What an Advantage+ leads campaign is
An Advantage+ leads campaign is not a separate campaign type: it is a Leads campaign with three automated settings left on. Meta's help page on Advantage+ leads campaigns says all three are applied by default.
- Advantage+ campaign budget. One budget at campaign level, which Meta spreads across your ad sets.
- Advantage+ audience. Your age, gender, interests and customer lists act as suggestions, and Meta can show ads beyond them when it expects better results. For the campaign to count, at least one ad set must use it.
- Advantage+ placements. Meta decides where your ads appear across its apps and placements. Every ad set must use it.
Everything else in a manual Leads campaign stays available. Meta's page says you keep every conversion location and every performance goal. That covers instant forms, website forms, calls and click-to-message, which is where click-to-WhatsApp ads sit. Meta made it available globally on 30 October 2025, so UAE accounts should have it, although the help page still notes it "may not be available to you yet".
What keeps each lever on, and what turns it off
Meta's page on what turns Advantage+ on and off sets one rule per section: if you narrow budget, audience or placements too far, that section shows Advantage+ off and the campaign is no longer an Advantage+ leads campaign.
| Lever | Stays on if you | Usually turns off if you |
|---|---|---|
| Budget | Use campaign budget, with one or several ad sets, even with ad set spending limits | Run several ad sets on ad set budgets |
| Audience | Keep inputs as suggestions; set locations, languages, a minimum age up to 25 or custom audience exclusions | Use Further limit the reach of your ads and untick Use as a suggestion for age, gender or custom audience inclusions |
| Placements | Leave Advantage+ placements on | Exclude a placement in any ad set, or opt out of mobile or desktop |
Three details from Meta's pages matter more than the table suggests:
- Account-level controls never turn it off. Ad account settings, such as a minimum age or blocked placements for the whole account, do not change the Advantage+ state.
- Placements may already be out of your hands. Meta is gradually removing ad set placement choices from Leads campaigns. Accounts that already have the change can only exclude placements at account level. Our guide to the Advantage+ placements change covers what still works.
- You can switch it back. Meta's set-up page says the Campaign opportunities panel on the right of Ads Manager shows whether the campaign is on, and Apply now restores it.
So "how do I turn off an Advantage+ leads campaign" has a plain answer: break one lever. There is no single switch, and you rarely need to break all three.
What Meta's numbers measure
In its own early testing, Meta says leads campaigns with Advantage+ on delivered, on average, 14% lower cost per lead and 10% lower cost per qualified lead than leads campaigns with Advantage+ off.
Read those figures for what they are. They are Meta's averages across its advertisers, not a forecast for your account. Cost per lead tells you nothing about whether the person picks up the phone. Cost per qualified lead only means something if Meta knows which of your leads qualified, which brings us to the setting that matters more than the label.
Lead quality comes from the goal, not the label
Advantage+ decides who can see the ad, but the performance goal decides what Meta looks for. Meta's page on performance goals for lead ads lists the options.
- Maximize number of leads. Meta finds the people most likely to share their contact details. It is built for volume, and in my experience it is where most junk leads come from when nothing else filters them.
- Maximize number of qualified leads. Meta finds the people most likely to convert after submitting. Since April 2026 Meta no longer offers this goal for new campaigns without a Conversions API integration, and existing campaigns are affected from August 2026.
- Maximize number of leads through messaging (still rolling out) and Maximize value of conversions (for accounts that send lead values to Meta).
The fix for lead quality is therefore a feedback loop, not a narrower audience. Send your CRM stages back to Meta through the Meta Conversions API so that "qualified" means something. If you use instant forms, Meta also offers "Leads with WhatsApp conversations" as a follow-up event, which lets delivery use WhatsApp conversation signals rather than form fills alone. You can also require SMS phone number verification on the form. Meta's own example is The First Group, a Dubai real estate company, which cut invalid phone numbers by 45% with SMS verification.
When I keep it on, and when I break a lever
My rule is simple: keep Advantage+ on unless a business or legal constraint forces a hard limit, and when one does, use the control that meets it with the least damage.
Keep it on when the offer suits a broad UAE audience (a clinic treatment, a business setup package, a course), when you optimise for leads or qualified leads with a working CRM signal, and when the budget cannot support many separate ad sets anyway.
Use a control that keeps it on for most constraints:
- Only UAE residents, or only certain emirates. Location is a control, not a suggestion.
- Arabic or English speakers only. Languages is a control.
- No under-21s. A minimum age up to 25 keeps Advantage+ on.
- No existing customers or past leads. Excluding a custom audience keeps it on.
- One project needs guaranteed spend. Ad set spending limits keep it on, although Meta advises using as few as possible.
Break a lever only when no control does the job. A women-only clinic or salon, where a gender suggestion could still deliver to men, justifies a hard gender limit on the audience. Two projects with fixed, separate budgets justify ad set budgets. Meta says a campaign with Advantage+ off will not benefit from all its AI optimisations, so judge that campaign on qualified leads, not on the label.
What I check first in UAE accounts. When an advertiser says Advantage+ "brings junk", I look at the performance goal and the form before the audience. Maximize number of leads on a short instant form, with no CRM signal going back to Meta, tends to produce cheap, weak leads whichever audience setting you choose. Fix the signal first, then decide whether any lever needs breaking.
Property, finance and recruitment ads
Special ad category campaigns may not get the full Advantage+ setup, and Meta's help pages are cautious about it. The audience controls page says campaigns in the housing, employment or financial products and services categories "will not have access to Advantage+ audience". The on/off page says these campaigns "may not have access to all Advantage+ features, or may see a different experience".
For UAE property developers and brokers this matters when a campaign reaches buyers in Europe, the US or Canada and has to be declared under the housing special ad category. Check what your own account shows before you plan around Advantage+ in those campaigns, and expect the audience options to be limited by the category, not by your choices.
The set-up order I use
- Fix the signal. Connect your CRM to the Conversions API and pick the qualified leads goal where it is available.
- Choose the conversion location that matches your follow-up: an instant form with WhatsApp follow-up, a website form, or click-to-WhatsApp.
- Set account-level controls for anything that must apply everywhere, such as a minimum age or blocked placements.
- Create the Leads campaign with Advantage+ on, one or two ad sets, campaign budget, and location, language and exclusions as controls.
- Add audience suggestions, such as a customer list or interests, if you have them.
- Leave it through the learning phase before judging, and judge on cost per qualified lead from your CRM.
- Break a lever only for a hard constraint, and note which one, so you can compare that campaign fairly with the rest.
If you would rather have someone run this for you, it is how our Meta Ads management sets up lead campaigns for UAE businesses.
