Why your ad account isn't converting: fix tracking first

By Abhishek Thakral · Freelance performance marketer, Dubai · Updated September 2026

Short answer

Most ad accounts do not fail on creative or budget. They fail on tracking. If Meta and Google cannot see which leads become real customers, they optimise for cheap form-fills instead of buyers, and budget flows to the wrong campaigns. Fixing CAPI, GA4, offline conversions and CRM sync is usually the highest-ROI change you can make.

The real reason accounts underperform

After four years and 40+ accounts across Dubai, the same pattern shows up again and again. Owners blame the platform, the creative or the budget. The actual problem is upstream: the account is optimising toward the wrong signal. If the only thing Meta counts is a form submission, it will get very good at producing form submissions, including from people who never answer the phone. Garbage in, garbage optimised.

What proper tracking actually looks like

How bad tracking quietly wastes budget

Without this, two campaigns can look identical in Ads Manager while one produces buyers and the other produces tyre-kickers. You scale the wrong one because the dashboard says it is cheaper. The waste is invisible until you compare against the CRM. In high-consideration markets like real estate, clinics and business setup, where the sale happens offline, this gap is enormous.

This is why every engagement I run starts the same way: fix tracking first, then scale what closes. On one full-funnel account, rebuilding CRM lifecycle stages and syncing them to Meta and Google, plus CAPI and offline conversion tracking, was a core part of reaching a 780% ROI.

The fix order

  1. Audit what is currently firing, and what is not.
  2. Install CAPI and Enhanced Conversions, deduplicated against the pixel.
  3. Define the real conversion: booked consultation, qualified lead, closed deal, not form-fill.
  4. Wire offline conversions and CRM sync so that real outcome flows back to the platforms.
  5. Only then scale budget, now that the algorithm is optimising toward money.

Frequently asked questions

What is CAPI and do I need it?+
The Meta Conversions API sends events server-to-server instead of relying only on the browser pixel. With iOS changes and ad blockers, the pixel misses a lot. CAPI recovers that signal. Any serious advertiser needs it.
What is offline conversion tracking?+
It sends real-world outcomes, a booked consultation or a closed deal, back to Meta and Google from your CRM, so they optimise for customers who convert offline, not just online form-fills.
How long does fixing tracking take?+
Typically the first one to two weeks of an engagement. It is not glamorous, but it is the change that makes every optimisation after it actually work.
